Landscapes from 2019
A little while back I wrote a blog post about landscape photography and my ongoing attempts to more deliberately take landscapes that I like. I have recently been reviewing my landscapes in the interest of finding some to hang in the house, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to share my progress. Following are a few of my favorite landscapes and cityscapes taken over the last year. I have been processing more pictures in color lately, so a few color ones that I really like made their way in here, but I still tend to prefer the drama of black and white for landscapes.
To start, I have to include one that I took of Pikes Peak while walking my dog at a park in Colorado Springs after a storm. This photograph won a couple of contests for me, and a large print of it was featured in the Colorado State Fair's art show. That was pretty neat!
I have been making a point of keeping my eyes open and stopping for interesting landscapes while I drive through this beautiful part of the country in which I live. The following were all taken from the side of the road on long drives through Colorado.
I visited the Great Sand Dunes National Park for the Fourth of July. The light and shadow on the dunes, and the tiny people for scale make for a really interesting surreal environment for pictures.
Work took me to Hawaii for a week during the summer, and of course I brought cameras along.
Late in the year, I visited my brother in New York and got some pretty cool cityscapes while walking around Brooklyn, especially in DUMBO. The bridges are just unreal. It's amazing how huge they are when you see them on foot from up close.
